About the church

Our story

A church that began with an instruction, a studio, and twenty-seven people in a cinema.

The Cosmopolitan Church started on an instruction from Almighty God: that our Senior Pastor should return to the ministry once committed into his hands, which had run from 2011 to 2016.

In the years between he had returned to The Redeemed Christian Church of God in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, serving there as a pastor from 2016 to 2024. The instruction to go back to Akure with his family came in June 2023. He resigned in January 2024, and the family moved from the work in Uyo home to Akure in May 2024.

After much prayer and preparation, the church held its first gathering on Sunday 1 December 2024, a studio worship session. It moved soon after into Screen 5 at the Filmhouse Cinemas, where twenty-seven people came for the inaugural service on Sunday 8 December 2024.

Where the name comes from

Both the name and the logo have their root in Psalm 19.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.”

Psalm 19:1–4 · KJV

A cosmopolitan is someone able to influence the world, and equally at home anywhere in it. That is the kind of disciple this church exists to raise.
